PACCAR and Seattle Mariners Partner for Education

March 14, 2007, Bellevue, Washington PACCAR Inc, a global technology leader, and the Seattle Mariners today announced a multi-year partnership that establishes a significant education program to support child and family literacy through the Page Ahead program.

For over 100 years, PACCAR has been a leader in applied technology on a worldwide basis.  Education provides the foundation for the development and implementation of leading-edge technology.  PACCAR is committed to providing children with the opportunity to improve their education and nurture the joy of learning, shared Mark Pigott, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.  This wonderful campaign to deliver new books for those in need, in partnership with the Seattle Mariners and Page Ahead, will enhance the lives of many children.  They are our future leaders and investing in their growth and development is everyones finest legacy.  During the past three years, PACCAR has provided over $14 million in educational grants to Universities, independent college funds, high schools and scholarship programs.

Both PACCAR and the Mariners have a long-standing commitment to youth education.  This partnership will set another milestone by purchasing more than 45,000 books for children, said Chuck Armstrong, Mariners President and COO.  The three-year sponsorship agreement between PACCAR and the Mariners includes important support for Page Ahead, a statewide childrens literacy program.  Through the PACCAR RBIs for Literacy program, the PACCAR Foundation will donate $100 to Page Ahead for each run batted in by a Mariner player during the season.  PACCAR will also sponsor three book drives at Safeco Field during the season to collect new childrens books for donation to Page Ahead.

Page Ahead is thrilled to be partnering with PACCAR and the Mariners to give children in need the opportunity to read.  This program gives new books to children who will really treasure them and raises community awareness about the importance of reading with children, said Susan Dibble, Executive Director of Page Ahead.

Page Ahead was founded in 1990 as Books for Kids by individuals from the Seattle Chamber of Commerces Leadership Tomorrow program.  Since 1990, Page Ahead has placed over 1.5 million new books into the hands of 500,000 at-risk children through collaboration with schools, social service agencies, preschools and early childhood centers across Washington State.  Page Aheads web site is www.pageahead.org.

Mariners Care and the Mariners corporate partners have provided over $7.7 million for charitable programs in the Pacific Northwest since 2000.  The main beneficiaries of Mariners Care are youth-oriented programs and organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs, Reviving Baseball in Inner-cities, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Childrens Hospital and Regional Medical Center.  The Seattle Mariners homepage is www.mariners.com.
