  • DAF will launch its newly developed PACCAR 9.2-liter PR Engine with the Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicles (EEV) specification for use in buses by the beginning of 2007. Using Selective Catalytic Reduction Technology in combination with a soot filter, DAF’s new diesel engine has 50% lower emission values than the strict Euro 5 rating and 25% lower values than what is normally required for EEVs. Until now, such low emission levels were only achieved with gas engines. Other advantages of the sophisticated diesel engine include high efficiency, reliability, durability and low operational costs.

A public transport symposium was held to announce that the VDL Group, one of Europe’s leading bus and coach manufacturers, will equip their new buses with DAF’s EEV diesel engine.

The Dutch Secretary of State Pieter van Geel of the Ministry of Housing, Regional Development and the Environment attended the symposium and expressed his satisfaction that it will now be possible to reduce the emissions of diesel engines to the point that natural gas and Liquid Petrol Gas will no longer be the only products to offer real environmental benefits.
